“Through The Rice Fields” 2018
Oil on Canvas
30 x 40 cm
This is one of my favorite works. In 2016 me and my partner did a 3 month trip through 8 countries in South East Asia. It was a very exhausting endeavor but beautiful nonetheless. I have always heard from my partner that Laos was his favorite place in South East Asia and I understood why as soon as we arrived. The nature was stunning and the people were very open, kind and friendly, in general I can say, a very calm place to be.
This painting was made out of a picture I took in Phonsavan, a city with a small complex of ruins recently discovered. The ruins consisted of big stone vessels, randomly placed in a field in between rice fields. The day we visited was quite cloudy and rainy, but before we parted a bit of sun came out and we enjoyed a beautiful sunset view. On the way back, already away from the vessels, we saw this man walking through the rice fields, it was a very beautiful and peaceful image that somehow to me, encompassed what has been my experience in such a beautiful country.
